From Franz Josef, I headed straight for Bruce Bay, where I’d heard there is a good chance of finding, Pounamo, New Zealand jade. I wanted to do something with it as a gift? for the girls and all their respective birthdays. after wandering up and down for a couple of hours I’d got quite a stash and had decided by this point to build a little sculpture for them. The various ‘artisan’ craft souvenirs definitely aren’t their thing. Once I’d found my site (a huge old bit of treestump) I battled with the wind and the sandflies for as long as I could bear and here’s the result (and some random stones).
Then on to Wanaka and through the Haast Pass and on to Lakes Hawea and Wanaka. It was a stunning drive and maybe I should have stopped more but I wanted to get to my chosen campsite before it was too dark. I was glad that I did.
As, setting up camp that night I noticed a huge Moonbow over the lake, with the clouds gone from the snowy mountaintop, I knew this was a rare opportunity.
Camera, 15mm lens, remote, tripod…..get a move on – its right over the top NOW!!!

I’d set my heart on going out to Doubtful Sound on an overnight boat trip and the weather was looking good only for the next few days so I bolted off to Te Anau and Fiordland………. another adventure will unfold.
Really loving your photos – well, art if truth be told. Wish I could have had you capturing what I saw in the Australian outback. My holiday snaps just don’t measure up!
Anyway, it looks as if you have a wonderful adventure and thank you for sharing it with us. All love, Manda
