Cape Grim and The Dismal Swamp

A quick day trip to Stanley turned into a three-day voyage through a region that I completely fell in love with.

A stop on the way up the northern coast road at Boat Harbour Beach, meant I could make sure caffeine levels weren’t getting dangerously low and a to launch the drone. Exquisite water colours and a lovely view up then back on the road.

The weather is being kind to me.

Up The Nut at Stanley and a quick tour of the top and head over to Arthur River, for the night and do a boat trip. I found a gnarly route, through Cape Grim!!!  arriving just before dusk. Everywhere seemed, or was, shut, so I headed back to the Murrawah Tavern to enquire what to do while I waited. Basically nothing, if you’re not a surfer although the Dismal Swamp was an option.. Erk! You’ve got to love the names here –

I took the 100km dirt road through the Arthur Pieman/Donald River area. Wild and well off the beaten track. Drizzly and vast views, being ringed by the distant mountains all round, I was glad to hit the fabulous little oasis at Corinna and the ferry crossing there. I was seriously starting to get a ffs Ewan, where have you gone?  NO body for hours – new country, new (old) car!!!! No Idea!

Great little tavern and now a good feeling of really being away from it all. I’m heading back there for a river cruise, they need 6 minimum, but – lots of information from Barry about the locale. Rainforest on one side and Eucalyptus forest on the other, 9m tree ferns etc.  I headed off the ferry through the wee gap in the forest wall to continue my journey to Strahan.

I stayed overnight and did a trip round the harbour, out into the Roaring Forties, then up the Gordon River, which provided lots of new photo  opportunities, and launched drone from the deck for a shufty. DCIM100MEDIADJI_0070.JPG

I now need a change of clothing and head back to Devonport as the sun fades – I’m smelly but happy and still peering out of the window with my mouth hanging open.

  2. The North East and around the Tamar Estuary looking good for the next week or so….
Got to get to the East Coast soon and then a trip to Flinders Island middle of next month?
Hobart and the south after that I think, but as with all things – plans change a bit. Take care mate.
